As I was leaving Kings Supermarket, near the exit there's was some newsletters from Occupy Wall Street. Only 3 or 4 copies though.
Its a third edition, and I didnt see the first 2 editions there before. 4 large pages, photos and articles expressing their purpose and how the organization evolved and is evolving.
That brought flashbacks of the late 60's early 70's era where the people's activism was in full stride regarding the war, environment and equality. Activism gives the people a voice and possibly brings change to the landscape just like back then.
Attending Rutgers Engineering school and very busy I wasnt integral then, but i did understand the underpinnings. On my way between classes, I stood listening to those who were stanidng on top of the phone booth speaking to the gathered crowd of students. (does anyone remember phone booths anymore?) I had taken something very important away from that bygone era and its ingrained. The message to me was people can change a bad system with perserverance and getting out any necessary information to promote the needed change.
There is frustration on all levels and those levels want to be heard toward participation in a better world. One such level calls themselves the 99% and publish the newsletter i reference above..
To me, this is what its all about. Whatever level of success that may be attained is always a step forward. We should all wish them luck. Its a long time coming for a second revival. The winter is setting in so unknown if they will have legs through it. I hope to see further editions show up at Kings Supermarket helping in the spreading of information for this cause.
